My Life..... But Not As You Know It!

Here goes....

I imagine there are lots of people like me; quiet, unassuming, a little on the shy side. For the most part I think people look on me as a decent person and they'd be right. I come from a poor, working class background, which in my case taught me a good set of morals and a simple set of values.

I was born in the U.K. but for the last 30+ years have divided my time between the UK and the USA. The experience has broadened my view on life. It's been good and sometimes not so good. If I could to do it again I would, but would definitely tweak it a little. Oh! for the gift of foresight!   

Coming from a religious upbringing I find myself at times unconsciously asking God for help when I need it! It was ingrained in me as a kid and is not easy to let go! I believe that much of what is packaged as (Roman Catholic) religion is nothing more than an attempt to control and oppress. It's taken me years to address and between that and another issue I will discuss another time has had a very negative effect on my life. Added to that, any organisation that preaches honesty, goodness, righteousness and compassion from a pulpit, and then employs a cover up to hide a network of paedophiles, is utterly disgusting and so much worse than hypocritical. Needless to say, I am not now a religious person.

I detest politics and believe that most politicians are self-serving. I'm not a socialist but believe in helping those who need it. On the flip side, I'm not a capitalist but I'm all for creating wealth. I don't agree with the tax laws that allow corporations to pay so little tax. There’s something sadly wrong with any society that does so little to reduce the levels of poverty and ill-health in the world, at a time when there is so much wealth and innovation. Sickening really!

I am not sure what the content of this blog will be or how it will evolve. I have no agenda or real plan. It will include my experiences from early childhood to present day. I will write about things that interest and inspire me, or on which I hold strong views or find provoking. I am not an intellectual but like to think I have a reasonable level of intelligence and common sense. My grammar may jump between "English English" and "American English". It is what it is!  Read at your peril....or impending boredom! That said, feel free to comment on the posts.
